Yogendra Yadav and Suhas Palshikar Threaten Legal Action Against NCERT Over 'Politically Biased' Textbooks

Renowned political scientists Yogendra Yadav and Suhas Palshikar, who serve as chief advisors for political science textbooks, have issued a stern warning of potential legal action against the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). They allege that the council has published revised textbooks under their names without their consent, branding them as "politically biased" and academically unsound.

Expressing their strong objection in a letter, Palshikar and Yadav demand the immediate withdrawal of the new editions bearing their names from the market. They assert that the NCERT should not use their names to endorse textbooks they find biased, academically flawed, and pedagogically ineffective.

Last year, both scholars raised concerns about the revision process, criticizing it for mutilating the original textbooks and rendering them academically dysfunctional. They lamented that the textbooks, once a source of pride, had become a cause of embarrassment due to significant additions, deletions, and rewriting by the NCERT without consulting them.

The controversy surrounding the revised textbooks intensified as the Class 12 political science textbook omitted references to key events such as the Babri Masjid demolition, instead describing it as a "three-domed structure." Additional deletions included the BJP's 'rath yatra,' the role of kar sevaks, and communal violence post-Babri Masjid demolition. However, NCERT director Dinesh Prasad Saklani refuted accusations of saffronization, attributing the modifications to the annual revision process and emphasizing the need to avoid content that could incite violence or despair among students.

Pc- Yogendra Yadav and Suhas Palshikar are threatening legal action against the NCERT, alleging the publication of "politically biased" textbooks under their names without consent. The scholars demand the immediate withdrawal of these books and express concern over the distortion of original content.
